Melissa Schreibstein, M.S.

Performance Consultant

Melissa is an expert in performance psychology and a trusted consultant with a passion for empowering people to work, live, and play at their very best. She is guided professionally by the belief that, with deliberate practice, we can take control of our mindset, develop our mental toughness, achieve our goals, and thrive in life. Melissa has over 8 years of experience applying psychological principles from sport and performance, positive, cognitive, and I/O psychology to drive positive change for individuals, teams, and organizations.

Drawn to help others and inspired by her own journey as a soccer player, Melissa initially set out on her career path to teach athletes strategies for gaining an edge on competition – especially the competition that comes from within. After years of practice and study, including a summer working with athletes at the world-renowned IMG Academy and a stint doing advocacy work for the Women’s Sports Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Billie Jean King, Melissa started One Up Performance. With customized education and training, One Up Performance helps clients develop the mental and emotional qualities that underlie optimal performance.

In her work in sport, Melissa uncovered another great interest in how those same research-based mental skills that allow athletes to break through barriers are also critical for success and well-being in other arenas, both personal and professional. One Up Performance, LLC performance training provides strong benefits to clients, including increased commitment, confidence, and control, improved focus, decreased anxiety, stronger resilience, and more consistent performance under pressure. One Up Performance, LLC also specializes in leadership development, guiding leaders to build a foundational philosophy along with the performance skills critical for success in today’s complex, fast-paced, and uncertain environments. Clients are performers of all shapes and sizes: corporate professionals, youth, college, and pro athletes, musicians, and weekend warriors.

Melissa is the Lead Performance Expert the Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2) Training Center in the National Capital Region. She has trained thousands of U.S. Army Soldiers, from Privates to Generals, to think and act in ways that promote personal growth and professional development through increased self-awareness, emotional control, mental agility, optimism, and connection. Melissa was selected to deliver executive-level resilience trainings for high-ranking NATO personnel in Belgium and Turkey. She has also conducted trainings for executives and senior Army leaders in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Pentagon’s Army personnel headquarters, as well as medical providers and patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Whether it’s in the office, the classroom, on the field, or on the range, Melissa provides interesting education, sound insight, and enthusiastic, strategic support to help clients achieve higher levels of success.

Melissa’s educational background is in Sport and Performance Psychology. She received her Master's of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Health and Human Services and is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Melissa also studied positive psychology and resilience at the University of Pennsylvania, and she is certified as a Level 4 Master Resilience Trainer for the U.S. Army.

In what seems like a past life, Melissa was the captain of the D1 women's soccer team at The George Washington University. In her free time, she enjoys traveling as much as she loves exploring her hometown of Washington, DC. A person with eclectic musical tastes, Melissa tries to go to as many concerts as possible. Some of her favorites to date include (in no particular order) Florence and the Machine, Prince, Adele, and Tegan and Sara. Melissa also stays in touch with sport and fitness, coaching girls’ soccer, and challenging herself to meet personal health and fitness goals. She is also a fan of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and the Baltimore Orioles.
